Hello,
I have just finished a three-month typography course at Montreal, Quebec's Concordia University and used the Advanced Font Viewer on many occasions.
Right now I don't have any issues to discuss but will use the forum when I do.
Thanks for the viewer.

If you can, please describe the program of training. It is very interesting.

Hello I am new to the forum and I have two questions.
Is there a way to find out the number of fonts I have installed on my computer through the "Advanded Font Viewer"?
What is the best free font site on the web?
Thanks in advance

Only total number of the installed font families.
It is visible in the bottom of the screen.

The Typography course was through Concordia University's Continuing Education's 'Visual Communication and Design Certificate'.
"This course introduces the fundamentals of typography and develops an increased sensitivity to the expressive potential of type. Gain exposure to historical as well as contemporary type aesthetics. Create successful typographic hierarchies and develop an understanding of the form, scale and shape of type through the art of handrawn comprehensives. Assignments focus on practical and theoretical typographic principles."
Stan Schwartz was our instructor and his course content included:
History of typography, structure of typefaces and fonts, and how to make readable and sophisticated looking documents. |

I want better postscript support.
truetype & opentype is not enough.
I guess there must be a reason...
Is it because of rights or something?
I smell Adobe here... |

I have received only two or three questions about this fonts format.
If the AFV users often asked about it, I probably would realize support of this format.

ALL POSTSCRIPT USERS
RAISE YOUR HAND!
RAISE YOUR MOUSE!
For a professional use, most of the fonts I gathered are postscript.
To get them in truetype or opentype would cost me too much money and time...
so again:
ALL POSTSCRIPT USERS
RAISE YOUR HAND!
RAISE YOUR MOUSE!
It would mean AFV would definitely kick Extensis and Adobe's asses.
With that AFV would become the must have from all graphic designers and typographers on PC.
Yours,
Manutau. |

 |

We tried a lot of Font Viewers but we found nothing better than "The Font Thing".
The only problem are the postscript fonts.
Dear Alexander, if you want to have success with your tool
support
- postscript
- browse incl. subfolders
- browse multiple view of "selected fonts" and "all fonts in folder"
- use a simple GUI interface
For a professional user these features are very important
The Font Thing is for us a ***** value
FontExpert **** value
OT1 *** value (cause it shows the font folders bold marked)
Printer's Apprentice and X-Fonter *** value (quick searching)
ATM ** value
Extensis Font Reserve and all others ..... forget it |

These features are included in "Font Thing"
Quote: |
browse - multiple view |
means to browse a font folder (as option also the subfolfers)
write a simple PR text (your life - your style)
and see the results displayed from ALL fonts
If someone like us with over 5000 fonts - not installed but in folders
like fonts/handwriting/modern , fonts/handwriting/old_fashion,
fonts/matrix, fonts/dot, fonts/sans_family etc. etc.
and would like to find the "right " font for a PR campagne
cant' click every font file!! We want to see the text and compare the results
That helps to get an easy and quick desicion.

a simple GUI interface |
Don't use green buttons, skins or any other "crazy" toolbars
A simple Tool bar is for Win users easier to use and "understand" it.
I'm sure you can write the most popular font viewer
if you choose as master "The Font Thing"!
In Germany I know at least 20 other Agencies
that would pay 50$ or more for a good Font viewer
HTH for developing a nice application!

It is possible in the AFV 2.3 or higher.
But without subfolders, only fonts in one folder.
I shall add subfolders fonts preview, as an option.

Please describe new pictures for existing icons.
For example, installation.
